04-02-08: Final Edit - I'm actually ridiculously happy with this one.. even with the glaring errors.
Toshi was born in a remote eurasian moutain range about 7000 years ago into a kitsune farming community. She was raised to become one of the shaman priestesses that would eventually work for the kings and lords of the area.
When she was sixteen, To-san was returning to the village with some supplies when she noticed that something was very, very wrong. The nomads that had lived higher on the mountain - and in peace with the kitsune village for YEARS - was razing the village and killing everyone in sight. As Toshi ran to aid her family, one of the nomad leaders caught the kitsune and declared that she would survive as his concubine. Toshi almost resigned herself to her fate, when she heard her mother screaming...
Toshi killed three of the nomads that held her before taking her own life.
Now, that would be a tragic ending...wouldn't it?
Fortunately for Toshi... her village laid on the spiritual border between land controlled by Lord Enma and by Yosei Reikishi, a Goddess of Light. The two showed up to claim Toshi for themselves, but managed to get into a fight over the young priestess. Coming to a compromise (whether Toshi liked it or not...) they divvied up her soul, and replaced the parts they'd taken with pieces of their own. Toshi was now bound as their servant... but they had higher plans for her than just fetching coffee and doing the laundry.
Toshi was given weapons and training from Junsui, Enma's weaponsmith, and released back into the world as a Demonhunter, instructed to maintain balance between the supernatural and human realms... which meant everything from mediation to slaying. (She prefers mediation ^_^)
The Demonhunter now heads up Supernatural Control under the Hell Council, and has been in charge of Human Resources for the last five years, where she's been a Level Nine Quality Control inspector for the last thousand years. (She can kill gods and demons that aren't meeting their quotas... or are just pissing her off.)
To-san normally carries around a six foot long Zanbatou Special which she's lovingly nicknamed "The Soul Reaver" - it separates body from soul on one side, and cuts through virtually ANYTHING on the other. Within it is the spiritual power of the Soul Reaver... the actual katana on which the sword gets its abilities.
These days Toshi normally stays near her home in the outskirts of Tokyo with her retainers and staff... but she keeps getting involved in things that she'd really rather stay out of. You know how it is.

Like I said before you look good as an anime character, but one thing always puzzles me how can anyone lift a sword like that? it would have a higher mass than her.
