-chapter 4-

Seikatsu and Kaikatsu hurried outside, letting the warriors know what was about to happen, struggling to be heard over the gunfire and screaming ghouls. As the Hellsing truck pulled up, Kaikatsu ran down to the pair that came out and led them inside.
“What’s going on?” Walter asked, as Kaikatsu took them inside, Sei and the rest of the assorted mercenaries right behind them.
“Julia is going back outside.” Seikatsu answered. “This is the safest place to be.”
“What could she possibly do that we couldn’t?” Hellboy asked as he pulled a cigar out of his pocket in an attempt to calm his nerves.

Just as the demon put the stogie in his mouth and started patting himself down in an attempt to search out a match, Julia walked past him in full Celestial Warrior dress, brandishing the now hellfire wreathed naginata, making Hellboy almost lose the cigar as his mouth hung open in shock.
“…I think I’ll be joining you in that chat.” Hellboy turned slightly to Walter, as the Angel of Death offered a lit match to the demon.
“Please do.” Walter scratched the back of his head with one hand as he shook out the match with the other. “I may need a little help keeping track of the conversation.”

Back outside, the ghouls stood about six feet away from Julia, clawing at the air, and hissing at the highly charged form before them.
“You are not welcome here.” Julia’s voice carried a strange ethereal lilt to it as the catgirl’s wings extended out a bit, pushing the ghouls back another couple of feet. “Revel in the thought that I have spared you the anguish of being on my hallowed ground as you finally descend into the night.” Julia turned the naginata blade down and sunk it deeply into the ground, sending out a massive shockwave of spiritual energy that completely destroyed the ghouls, decimating their numbers into ash, but leaving the surroundings intact and unscathed.

Julia’s wings and gossamer robes faded as she turned to go back into the temple, the cat reverting to her ‘normal’ leather-clad form.
“Thank you.” Julia turned to Yosei and bowed her head slightly as she entered the room. “… And now I’m going to bed, as I’m on the verge of passing out.”
Natalie and Charity helped Julia into the back room, the werewolf almost having to carry the catgirl.
“Someone has to explain that.” Kate started. “She looked like…”
“… An angel?” Beast interrupted. “Oh, believe me, Julia, Natalie, and Charity are much, much, more than that. But it will have to wait until tomorrow. If we are to get on the trail of Toshi’s disappearance bright and early… ” The blue mutant checked his watch. “We get another three hours of sleep.”
“You are welcome to stay here with us.” Yasashii offered to both the Hellsing members and the B.P.R.D.. “There’s more than enough room, and we could use all the help we can get.”
“What’s going on, anyway?” Roger asked.
“A very powerful demon hunter has been missing for about a week. We were hired to find her… but it seems like this place has bitten off a bit more than it can chew.” Archangel started.
“You mean Ayame-sama?” Alucard asked.
“One and the same.” Archangel nodded.
“I’m staying.” Alucard crossed his arms. “I’m surprised that Tamashii-sama and the others aren’t here yet.”
“They don’t know.” Yosei started. “I’m going back upstairs and putting out the message. The sooner she can be found, the better.”
“Upstairs?” Johann turned to the Goddess.
“I live on a plane of existence similar to Heaven. Because of me, any spirits that travel with my retainers are clear as day. Much like Kai-chan and Sei-san.” Yosei motioned to the pair of spirits, who waved to the medium and went back to their game of Go, picking up right where they left off.
“…This is absolutely fascinating.” Johann almost fell over from the information overload it became apparent just what kind of world they had come into. “Hellboy, could we stay?”
“Sure.” Hellboy nodded. “The hotel’s on the other side of town, and I really don’t feel like walking all the way back.”

Around 5:30 in the morning, Kaikatsu slipped into the sleeping chamber.
“Hey… wake up.” The young spirit shook Hellboy awake, turning her efforts to Beast as the demon started to stir.
As Hellboy turned over, his tail almost whipped Kaikatsu in the head, the little spirit becoming transparent in time to avoid an injury.

“You know, Abe und I could always interview you.” Johann crouched down next to Kaikatsu. “You don’t need to wake up Hellboy.”
“I know. I was instructed to let them sleep, but he wanted to speak with Julia before she left.” Kaikatsu sat on Hellboy’s back.
“How is sitting on him going to wake him up?” Johann asked.
“Sleep paralysis.” Kaikatsu beamed. “Many people believe it’s induced by spirits. My added weight will also make Hellboy’s lungs will stop working long enough for his brain to panic and wake him up.”
A couple of quiet seconds passed, then Hellboy suddenly took a deep breath, his eyes automatically snapping open.
“Ohayo gozaimasu, Hellboy.” Kaikatsu waved to Hellboy as she got off his back. “Julia and Walter are in the main hall.”

Hellboy grunted his confusion, raising an eyebrow at the spirit, who just blinked at him and smiled.
“Oh… right.” Hellboy started to rise, sitting on his haunches as he stretched, pausing mid-yawn as he noticed that he was now clad in a tan-colored kimono. Looking around, he spotted his belt and the Samaritan neatly placed on top of a pair of sandals, hakama, and strips of muslin.
Hellboy turned to the spirit, slightly short of annoyed. “Where are my clothes?”
“The monks took them.” Kai sheepishly grinned.
“What?” Hellboy cocked his head.
“This place is haunted by a group of monks. They have enough power here to do general chores like cooking, cleaning, and laundry.” Kaikatsu ticked the points off on her fingers. “They took everyone’s things except for weapons and tools.”
Alucard suddenly appeared over Kai’s shoulder. “They took my hat.”
“I know.” Kaikatsu half-smiled at the vampire.
“I wasn’t even sleeping, and they took my hat.” Alucard half-growled. “I want it back. Now.”
“Everything will be returned by nightfall.” Kai held her hands up in defense. “Every time the temple is defended, things like this tend to happen. …But, um… how do they fit?”
Hellboy and Alucard stopped for a moment, actually taking a couple of seconds to let it all sink in.
“I like it.” Hellboy nodded.
“All things considered, I suppose it will do.” Alucard shrugged.
Kai giggled a bit under her breath.
“What?” Hellboy asked.
“You two look like Gatekeepers of Hell. All you need is an axe and an umbrella.” Kai burst out laughing.
“Kaikatsu, stop harassing them.” Julia appeared out of nowhere behind the spirit, now clothed in a short warrior’s kimono. “H.B., you wanted to have that chat with me?”
Hellboy rose, nodding. “Yeah, I’m coming.”
As the demon gathered his things, he looked up at Julia, hakama in hand. “I have no idea how to put these on.”
“I’ll help you out.” Julia accepted the garment as Hellboy handed them to her, and started to leave the room. “Oh, and leave the sandals. You won’t need them.”
Hellboy jogged after Julia, leaving Kaikatsu to fend for herself and Johann to try and defuse the situation enough so he could get a couple of answers out of the spirit.

Out in the main room, Walter and Abe were sitting around a low table, having some semblance of breakfast.
“Good of you to join us, Hellboy.” Walter motioned for the demon to have a seat.
“No chairs, eh?” Hellboy looked around.
“When in Japan…” Abe shrugged.
Hellboy looked at Julia, who simply tossed him the hakama.
“If you can get them on, I’ll tie them up for you.” Julia half-smiled. “I’ll warn you now, they do have a slit for your tail.”
“Oh.” Hellboy promptly turned the hakama around and put them on, offering the ties to the catgirl.
As Julia tied up the pants, Walter looked up at her. “So… what exactly happened last night?”
“You’re probably not going to believe me, but I’m really a general in the Army of Heaven.” Julia started.
